ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM SUPERVISOR DOUGLASS

May 22, 2026

Hello Residents and Community,

It’s been a good week here in Black Brook, and today the sky is blue and the sun is shining as we kick off the holiday weekend!

Please note that Town Offices and the Highway Department will be closed on Monday, May 25th, in observance of Memorial Day.

First, we would like to give a huge shout-out to the Hometown Heroes Committee and all of their volunteers for once again displaying our community’s Hometown Heroes banners. They are a beautiful tribute to those who have served and make our town shine with pride.

We would also like to recognize Robyn Pray, Maggie Pope, Michelle Perkins, and all of the volunteers who placed veterans’ flags throughout our cemeteries. It is a wonderful way to honor those who gave so much and a meaningful way to begin Memorial Day weekend.

Robyn Pray, who was born and raised here in Black Brook and is the daughter of Bill and Bonnie Hackett, now resides in Keeseville and serves as Director of the Keeseville Free Library. Robyn stopped by the office yesterday and asked if we could help spread the word about some exciting upcoming events happening through the library and community.

The Keeseville Community Arts Festival will take place July 17th and 18th along the Ausable River in Keeseville. The festival will feature a Plein Air Art Show and Sale, family-friendly activities, artisan demonstrations, live music, and a 5K Color Run/Walk.

The Keeseville Community Arts Festival 5K Color Run and 1-Mile Kids Fun Run will be held July 18th. This event benefits the Keeseville Free Library and supports the library’s 100th Anniversary celebration. Be sure to check out the flyers above for registration details and more information.

JCEO UPDATE:

A reminder that Monday is a holiday and JCEO will not be open. Because of the closure, there will not be a fresh food delivery next week.

Renee has been hard at work building up the Community Cares shelves. If you have not had an opportunity to check them out, be sure to reach out to Renee. Available items include clothing for all ages, household items, books, puzzles, and more; all available free to community members.

YOUTH COMMISSION UPDATE:

Baseball, softball, and T-ball are well underway, and teams have been practicing for several weeks now. We would like to recognize and thank all of our coaches, assistant coaches, and parent volunteers for dedicating your time so our youth have the opportunity to play, learn teamwork, and build lasting memories.

We would also like to recognize our team sponsors for helping make this season possible. Because of your generosity, our players look sharp on game days with new shirts and hats while representing our community with pride.

A sincere thank you to our team sponsors:

RIVER PARK UPDATE:

It was a beautiful day last Saturday at the River Park, AVCS students and families enjoying the space and capturing some pre-prom pictures before a memorable evening.

We hope everyone enjoyed the park, made great memories, and had a wonderful time celebrating prom.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT:

This week we are recognizing an outstanding organization; Hometown Heroes Banner Project Black Brook & Jay.

This dedicated committee works tirelessly to honor and recognize servicemen and women, along with their families, who have served our country in the United States Armed Forces.

The Hometown Heroes banners displayed throughout our community serve as a meaningful reminder of sacrifice, service, and hometown pride. They tell stories, preserve memories, and ensure those who have served are recognized and remembered.

We greatly appreciate the dedication, hard work, and countless volunteer hours this committee puts into making this project possible year after year. Their efforts help showcase our pride in our veterans and military families while making our community a beautiful and meaningful place to call home.

Thank you to the Hometown Heroes Banner Project Black Brook & Jay Committee and volunteers for all you do for our community.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK:

Julie witnessed this beautiful Kingfisher fly out and perch upon a nearby branch at Fern Lake.

Thank you, Julie, for sharing another incredible glimpse of nature and the beauty that surrounds our community.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our community. We hope everyone has a safe, enjoyable, and meaningful Memorial Day weekend as we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Stay safe, enjoy the sunshine, and have a wonderful holiday weekend.
