This week was another busy one here in the Town of Black Brook.
On Monday evening, we held a Public Hearing to review the proposed Local Law providing a property tax exemption for eligible EMS volunteers, followed by our regular monthly Town Board Meeting. Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to stay involved in local government.

We're excited to introduce even more family fun during this year's Town of Black Brook Labor Day Celebration!
The Foam Show - Jump in and enjoy a mountain of foam-filled fun for all ages.
Thera-Pets - Meet and interact with these incredible therapy animals.
Both attractions will participate in the Labor Day Parade and then head to River Park following the parade for even more family fun.
Local Businesses Operating & Sponsoring Game Booths - Enjoy games, prizes, and community spirit throughout the festivities.

The Forks Blend & Brew - Stop by for delicious coffee, specialty drinks, and refreshments.
Au Sable Forks Fire Department Food Booth - Enjoy great food while supporting our local volunteer firefighters. This is in addition to The Dogfather Food Truck and Ice Cream Truck, giving everyone even more delicious food and dessert options throughout the day.
And we're not done yet! We're still putting the finishing touches on this year's celebration. Stay tuned as we continue announcing additional activities, vendors, entertainment, and family - friendly activities in the coming weeks.

JCEO Fresh Food Box Reminder
Due to the growing waiting list, Fresh Food Boxes must be picked up by 2:45 PM.
If your box has not been picked up by 2:45 PM, it will be distributed to a family on the waiting list.
If you know you will be unable to pick up your box, please call Renee at 518-647-5411 ext. 3 as soon as possible so your box can be made available to another family in need.
As another successful season comes to a close, we'd like to thank everyone who helped make our 2026 Baseball & Softball Season a success!
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all of our volunteer coaches for your time, dedication, patience, and commitment to our youth. Our recreation programs simply would not be possible without volunteers who are willing to invest in our children and our community.
We'd also like to recognize and thank the many parents who stepped up this season to help umpire games. Your willingness to volunteer was greatly appreciated.
Finding qualified umpires has been an ongoing challenge for our program for at least the past nine years, and we know many of you shared in the frustration this season. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue working to improve this aspect of our program.
Although soccer registration was scheduled to close, we've decided to extend registration through Sunday, July 19, to give families one final opportunity to sign up.

Just like baseball and softball, our soccer program continues to face a shortage of referees. We are asking for your help in spreading the word about the upcoming referee certification clinic.
The Clinton County Youth Bureau is looking for referees for the 2026 Soccer Season (August 22 – October 10).

Becoming a referee is a great way to support our local youth programs while earning extra income and giving back to the community.
It's already Week 2 of the Patriots Youth Summer Program! We reached out to Program Director Chelsea Sprague for an update, and here's what she had to say:
The Patriot Summer Youth Program is well underway, and we've already completed Week 2!
These first two weeks have been filled with learning new routines as we settle into our new location at Ausable Forks Elementary, making new friends, and reconnecting with familiar faces.
We enjoyed visits from Cornell Cooperative Extension, where participants learned how to prepare easy, nutritious snacks and had the opportunity to sample their delicious creations. Cornell visits us weekly.
Our literacy block, in collaboration again this year with Keeseville Library, the kiddos spend time partner reading, independently reading, and our olders "buddy" up with our littles to read to them. This gives everyone time to read or be read to.
The excitement is just getting started! Over the coming weeks, we have many more engaging opportunities planned to educate, inspire, and surprise our growing group of youth.

I would like to personally thank Chelsea Sprague for the tremendous amount of time, heart, energy, and dedication she pours into the Patriot Summer Youth Program each and every summer. Your leadership and commitment help create an environment where our children can learn, grow, make new friends, and create lasting memories.
I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to Mrs. Martineau, Director of the Cafeteria, and her entire food service staff. Thank you for the hard work, compassion, and dedication you put into making sure every child in the program has nutritious meals each day. Your efforts are an important part of the program's success and are truly appreciated.
A special thank you also goes out to our bus drivers and our incredible summer counselors. Your patience, enthusiasm, and dedication make a positive impact on our youth every single day. Whether you're safely transporting children, leading activities, or serving as a positive role model, you are helping make this program one that our community can be proud of.
Programs like the Patriot Summer Youth Program do not succeed because of one person; they succeed because of an outstanding team. Thank you to each and every one of you for your commitment to providing the youth of the AuSable Valley Central School District with a safe, positive, and engaging summer experience. On behalf of the Town of Black Brook, we are grateful for everything you do.
This week's Picture of the Week highlights the annual Fern Lake Fourth of July Fishing Derby!
From the looks of things, this event was a tremendous success, with 45 young anglers participating in a fun-filled morning on the water.
