Hello Residents and Community,
I hope everyone has had a great week and is enjoying the summer! Here are a few updates:
Soccer registrations are now complete, and our Youth Commission is in the process of finalizing team rosters.
Rosters will be completed and distributed to coaches on Monday, July 27th. If you registered your child for soccer, you should be hearing from your coach shortly thereafter.
If our fields are ready, practices may begin anytime after August 1st.
This season, we are excited to offer:
At this time, we have enough players to field one Peewee (3rd & 4th Grade) team, but we are still in need of a volunteer coach. Without a coach, unfortunately, we will not be able to offer a Peewee season.
If your child is entering 3rd or 4th grade and you are interested in volunteering, we would greatly appreciate your help. Coaching is a rewarding way to support our youth and our community.
Once practice schedules and field availability have been finalized, we will also determine when we can begin our 4-week Kindergarten Soccer Instruction Program. We appreciate everyone's patience and will provide an update as soon as plans are finalized.

"What an amazing Week 3 we had exploring space!
One of the highlights of the week was welcoming the Adirondack Sky Initiative and their portable planetarium. Students had an incredible educational experience as they explored the rocky planets in our solar system and learned more about space through an engaging presentation. Ask your kiddos if they can name the four rocky planets! Each group asked amazing questions, and I am so very proud of them.
I'd also like to thank Superintendent Mike Francia for joining us on Thursday while we explored the planets in the planetarium. Thank you for visiting!
Our space theme continued throughout the week with creative activities. Campers made colorful planet mobiles, painted beautiful galaxies, and even designed and named their own constellations.
During STEM activities, our younger students learned about the planets and the phases of the moon, while our older students designed, built, and decorated their own lunar landers, putting their engineering skills to the test.
Literacy time focused on learning about space, sharing questions, imagining ourselves as astronauts, and later writing thank-you cards to the Adirondack Sky Initiative.
Cornell Cooperative Extension returned with another delicious recipe for several of our groups. Be sure to ask your child about what they made—the recipe was sent home!
A huge thank you to the Keeseville Library and Robyn Pray for once again partnering with our program by providing wonderful books for our literacy activities. Next week we have two new hands-on literacy activities planned.
Next week we'll be traveling to The Wild Center, where campers will explore our local wildlife as part of our Week 4 animal theme.

Great news! The Community Cares Shelves recently received a wonderful donation of girls' clothing in sizes 0–9 months. If you or someone you know could benefit from these items, stop by while supplies last!
Back-to-School Reminder
Don't forget; backpack orders are due by Friday, August 14! If your family needs assistance with school supplies, please be sure to submit your request before the deadline.

Planning continues for this year's Town of Black Brook Labor Day Weekend Celebration, and we're excited to begin sharing some of the festivities planned for the weekend!
We're excited to invite everyone to the Black Brook Community Celebration at the River Park! Bring your family and friends and enjoy an afternoon filled with free food, fun, and activities for all ages.
We'll be serving a FREE community cookout featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, chips, refreshments, and complimentary ice cream sundaes, generously sponsored by Stewart's Shops. Kids can enjoy rides on the Black Brook Express Train Ride, create their own colorful keepsake at our Tie-Dye T-Shirt Station, and visit Pipsqueak the Clown, who will be entertaining families from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a magic show and face painting. Our Traditional Craft & Vendor Fair will also be taking place at the River Park, featuring a variety of local crafters, organizations, and vendors.
So, if you're out exploring the Community-Wide Yard Sales or browsing the Craft & Vendor Fair, be sure to stop by the River Park, enjoy a complimentary lunch, and spend the afternoon with us. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike for a day filled with great food, family fun, and community spirit!

The celebration continues with our annual Labor Day Parade, stepping off at 1:00 p.m. and making its way to the River Park, where an afternoon and evening of festivities awaits!
More entertainment, activities, food vendors, live music, and festivities will be announced in the coming weeks, including the Foam Show, Thera-Pets, live music, campfire, smore's and fireworks!

Sometimes unexpected emergencies happen, and help is available for those who need it.
The Au Sable Forks Action Corporation (AFAC) provides limited emergency financial assistance to ALICE households (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) living in the Towns of Black Brook and Jay. This program is designed to help hardworking individuals and families facing an unexpected financial hardship while working to remain in their homes and maintain employment.
Emergency assistance may be available for situations such as:

All applications are reviewed confidentially by an independent AFAC committee whose members reside outside the Towns of Black Brook and Jay, helping to ensure a fair, impartial, and confidential review process.
