Hello residents,
I hope everyone is well and looking forward to spring.
I’d like to start off by thanking the Au Sable Forks Knights of Columbus for the delicious fish fry that my family and I were able to enjoy last Friday. Did you know that any profits the Knights of Columbus make are donated locally? Our JCEO office receives donations throughout the year from our local Knights, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas when families in our community may need a little extra help to make the holidays brighter. We are very appreciative of their continued support of our community.
They have one last fish fry this season. If you haven’t had a chance to get a meal and if you’re able, March 20th at Holy Name Parish is your chance. The fish fry will be served from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM.
TextMyGov is now live! I encourage all residents to opt in to stay informed about important information we need to get to you quickly, especially if we experience a water main break, boil water orders, road closures, or street cleaning notices.
As TextMyGov and our email notification system are now available, the Town will be eliminating social media by April 1st. Moving forward, the Town’s official platforms for communication will be:
• The Town website: https://www.blackbrookny.gov/
• Email alerts (which you can sign up for directly through the website)
• TextMyGov alerts: https://www.blackbrookny.gov/textmygov
Both email notifications and text alerts can be opted into by locating the widget on the Town’s webpage.
TextMyGov also takes the place of the Town’s phone app. We will no longer be utilizing the phone app and our contract ends in April. If you currently have the app, you can go ahead and delete it and be sure to opt in to TextMyGov alerts.

We also welcome back Renee, our JCEO representative, from a well-deserved two-week vacation. It was really heartwarming to see how much our community missed seeing her these past two weeks. Thank you to all of our Monday volunteers for stepping up and going the extra mile on fresh food days while she was away. You are all appreciated — it truly does take a village.
Renee has also asked that we share information about the Partners in Transition Summit, and you can find the flyer below.
We had a busy week of meetings at the office. We held a public hearing on Local Law #1-2026 for Dog Control Officer, followed by our monthly board meeting.
Our next monthly board meeting will be April 13th at 6 PM.
Tuesday evening we held our Comprehensive Committee meeting. Things are moving along, and I can’t express how grateful I am for the dedication the committee has shown and their efforts to help complete this important task. We will also be posting a link soon where residents will be able to view updates and follow the progress of the Comprehensive Plan.
Wednesday evening we had our first Labor Day planning meeting. There wasn’t a lot of interest in volunteering this year, and we may need to make a few adjustments with the lack of volunteers. One adjustment we are considering is eliminating some of the traditional game booths and focusing more on games and activities that do not require volunteers to staff them, while still giving kids plenty of opportunities to enjoy the day. Kids and families can still count on the Black Brook Express train ride, with myself at the helm as conductor. It’s always a great time hearing the kids laughing, smiling, and maybe a scream or two along the way.
For the Labor Day weekend celebration, we will once again be hosting our annual community-wide yard sales and vendor fair on Saturday and Sunday, September 5 and 6. New this year, there will be live music at River Park on Saturday evening, September 5, in addition to our live music on Sunday, September 6, with the fireworks display to follow Sunday evening.
Registrations for the parade, vendor fair, and community yard sales will begin at the beginning of June.
We had previously announced a community picnic, but we received a call this week from an organization with a possible addition to the weekend celebration. We are hopeful they will incorporate their idea into the weekend’s activities and will keep everyone updated as those plans develop.
Also, a friendly reminder that the New York State burn ban goes into effect on March 16th.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Supervisor Jon Douglass
