Hello, residents and community members!
I hope you have all had a good week and are looking forward to enjoying one of our last weekends of summer, especially our students as they prepare to head back to school!
I’d first like to start by extending a huge THANK YOU to our Town employees for all of their hard work this past week.
Fred, our Grounds, Water & Sewer employee, has spearheaded some major projects at the River Park, with the help of fellow Town employees John and Shane, as well as our Highway Department. A lot has been happening behind the scenes to prepare the park for Labor Day weekend and for its continued use by our community.
You may have seen that the Au Sable Forks Fire Department has passed down its BBQ pit to the Town of Black Brook, and its new home will be at the River Park! We are extremely grateful to the Fire Department for allowing the Town and our community to continue putting this BBQ pit to good use for years to come.
Fred has been preparing the area for its arrival while also working to finalize our new electrical service at the River Park, which is expected to be in place next week.
Our new trail is also coming along nicely, and we are looking forward to seeing these projects come together as we prepare for a great community gathering at the River Park over Labor Day weekend.
Thank you again to our employees for the hard work, teamwork, and pride you continue to put into our community.
Speaking of our parks and recreation opportunities, I’d also like to share an exciting update about work happening within our neighboring Town, The Town of Jay that includes opportunities for residents throughout our shared community.
We are very appreciative of Town of Jay Councilor Olivia Dwyer, who has been consistent in making sure her neighbors, including Town of Black Brook residents, are included in the work she is doing through the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) Program.
Olivia is very active with the Parks Committee and has worked hard throughout the RERC process. She has also kept an open line of communication with our office to ensure that Black Brook residents are aware of opportunities to participate and have their voices heard.
Congratulations to Councilor Dwyer on the work and accomplishments that have gone into bringing this opportunity to our area. We are happy to share the following information on her behalf:
The Town of Jay has been selected to participate in the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) Program. Two upcoming events will offer residents an opportunity to help plan how outdoor recreation can bring people together through our trails, parks, downtown areas, and local businesses throughout Au Sable Forks, Jay, Upper Jay, and our neighboring communities.
These events are FREE to attend, and food and beverages will be provided.

The soccer season is officially underway and games have begun! I’d like to wish all of our players, coaches, and families an enjoyable and successful season.
I would also like to thank Town of Jay employees Paul Benway and Brooke, along with AuSable Valley Central School, for their help getting our fields prepared and ready for our first weekend of games. Our youth programs rely on cooperation from many different people, and we appreciate everyone who helps make these opportunities possible for our kids.
While we’re on the topic of Youth Commission programs, we are looking for individuals interested in serving as Sports Coordinators for:
Jessie has enjoyed coordinating our sports programs, advocating for our kids, and working closely with our coaches and families. However, as her responsibilities here in the Supervisor’s Office have continued to increase, managing the additional responsibilities of multiple youth sports programs has become a challenge.
We would really like to find individuals who are passionate about youth recreation and interested in taking on a coordinator role.
Compensation is $1,000 per sport. Ideally, we would like to find someone who is interested in coordinating all of our Youth Commission sports programs. If one individual is interested in taking on the coordination of all sports, we would be happy to discuss the responsibilities and additional compensation for the overall role.

Please consider getting involved. Our coaches already volunteer a tremendous amount of their time, and having dedicated coordinators would be a great help in keeping these programs organized and successful for our children.
The Town of Black Brook Highway Department is hiring a full-time Motor Equipment Operator (MEO).
Starting Salary: $28.84 per hour
Application Deadline: September 9, 2026
This position involves the operation of trucks, snowplows, tractors, graders, loaders, bulldozers and other highway and road construction equipment, as well as preventative maintenance, manual labor, snow and ice removal, culvert and ditch work, and other duties as assigned.
Applicants should have knowledge and experience operating trucks and equipment, mechanical aptitude, the ability to follow written and oral instructions, knowledge of the local area, and the willingness and availability to respond to emergency situations.
Possession of the appropriate level New York State Operator’s License is required. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred.

It is with great pleasure that we announce Norm Hatch as the Grand Marshal of our 2026 Community Labor Day Parade!
When we began thinking about who we wanted to recognize with this honor, Norm was a natural choice.
For many years, Norm played an important role in a tradition that our community continues to enjoy today. Long before the Town of Black Brook took on coordinating the Labor Day Parade, Norm dedicated countless hours to helping organize and coordinate the parade when it was hosted through Holy Name Church. His efforts helped carry on a Labor Day tradition that has brought generations of families, friends, and neighbors together in Au Sable Forks.
But Norm’s contributions to our community extend far beyond the parade.
Through his many years of involvement with the Knights of Columbus and his willingness to continually give his time and energy to others, Norm has demonstrated what community service is truly about. He has quietly contributed to our area in many ways over the years, often without looking for recognition or expecting anything in return.
There is something especially meaningful about having someone who spent so many years helping organize this parade now leading it as our Grand Marshal.
Community traditions don't continue on their own. They continue because people are willing to give their time, put in the work, and care enough to keep them going. Norm is one of those people.
On behalf of the Town of Black Brook, myself, the Town Board, and our community, we are proud to recognize and thank Norm for his years of service, dedication, and commitment to our area.
