Happy Labor Day Weekend!
We’ll keep this week’s announcements focused on what is shaping up to be a very busy and exciting weekend here in Town.
Our Community Labor Day Celebration takes place this Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th, and we hope you’ll join us for a weekend filled with community, family, friends, and fun!
Our Community-Wide Yard Sales will be taking place from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM, and our craft vendors will be set up throughout the day.
Then join us for Community Day at the Town of Black Brook River Park from 12:00-3:00 PM!
Stop by for our FREE community cookout, complimentary ice cream sundaes sponsored by Stewart’s Shops, tie-dye T-shirts and drawstring bags, Pipsqueak the Clown with a magic show and face painting, Black Brook Express train rides, and more!
And don’t forget to support our friends at the Knights of Columbus for their Chicken BBQ from 4:30-6:30 PM at Holy Name School! It’s a great way to finish off a full Saturday of activities in Au Sable Forks.
Our annual Labor Day Parade steps off at 1:00 PM!
We want to make a specific point this week to make sure everyone is aware of the parade route.
The parade will begin at Holy Name Church on Main Street in Au Sable Forks, travel down Route 9N, and end at the Town of Black Brook River Park, where our Labor Day festivities will begin!

We encourage everyone to find a spot along the parade route, enjoy the parade, and then follow us down to the River Park!
Once the parade arrives, get ready for an afternoon and evening full of fun. Enjoy games and activities, the Foam Show, Thera-Pets, fire truck rides, delicious food, fried bread dough, specialty drinks, a beer tent, live music, s’mores around the campfire, and much more.
We’ll finish our Labor Day Celebration with our fireworks display at dark!
A tremendous amount of planning, preparation, volunteer time, sponsorship, and community support goes into making this weekend possible. On behalf of the Town Board and myself, thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way.
We are incredibly fortunate to live in a community where so many people are willing to step up and help create something special for our residents and visitors.
As we prepare for this weekend, we would once again like to recognize our dedicated Town staff for the tremendous amount of work they have been conducting at the River Park.
A special thank you to Fred, who has worked incredibly hard preparing the park. From completing the new electrical service and making sure our vendors have what they need, to ensuring the Foam Show has the proper electrical and water supply, and making sure our portable toilet units are in place and properly lit; there have been a lot of details to coordinate!
Fred has also been busy bringing a new vision to life on the right side of the River Park. If you visit us this weekend, be sure to check out the newly cleared area that will serve as the new home for our Black Brook Express train ride! He has done a fantastic job clearing and transforming this area. There's still some work to be done but the progress is there.
You will also notice another addition to the River Park this weekend; the BBQ pit passed along to the Town by our friends at the Au Sable Forks Fire Department.
A great deal of work went into removing the pit from the old fire station and getting it to its new home at the River Park. So much thanks to everyone involved in that process. Job well done!
We also want to give a huge thank you to John and Shane for their hard work and dedication this week. They have been busy preparing the River Park, setting up tents, working alongside Fred, checking in with us to make sure we have everything we need, and simply seeing what needs to be done and getting it done. No matter what event or Holiday, John is always there to make sure we are prepared!
There is an incredible amount of behind-the-scenes work that goes into preparing for a weekend like this. Having a team that works together, takes initiative, and takes such pride in our community makes all the difference.
Fred, John, and Shane, THANK YOU! Knowing we have the team we do is a tremendous relief, and your hard work certainly does not go unnoticed. We appreciate everything you have done to help make this weekend possible!
We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Paul Benway, Town of Jay employee, for once again going above and beyond to help us.
Paul made sure the lot across the river that is used for our Labor Day fireworks display was mowed and all set for this weekend.
It has truly been a pleasure working with Paul. His willingness to help, his commitment, and his desire to make sure we are taken care of are greatly appreciated.
Paul’s help also extends beyond our Labor Day Celebration. He recently made sure our Youth Commission soccer sponsor banners were displayed at the Grove Road fields, helping us recognize the businesses and community members who generously support our youth programs.

Community participation is strongly encouraged. Attending Town Board meetings is a great way to stay informed about local decisions, upcoming projects, and issues that impact our town. It also provides residents with an opportunity to share input and be actively involved in their community.

JCEO would like to remind residents that there will be no fresh food distribution on Monday, September 7th, as offices will be closed in observance of Labor Day.
This weekend would not be possible without our dedicated Town staff, neighboring municipalities and departments, emergency services, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, organizations, businesses, and community members who continue to step up and support our events.
Whether you donated financially, volunteered your time, provided equipment, helped prepare the park, sponsored an activity, entered the parade, became a vendor, or simply helped us spread the word, thank you.
There is a tremendous amount of work that happens behind the scenes to bring a community celebration like this together, and we are grateful for each and every person who has played a part.
Now it’s time to enjoy it!
